Sewer Scope Inspection

Moose Jaw 4A Property Inspection services offers video inspections of a home’s sewer line also known as a sewer scope. If you plan on purchasing an older home in an established Moose Jaw neighborhood, please ask us how we can have your sewers and drains scoped by a professional so that you aren’t left with big headaches OR a big repair bill after you move in! Understanding the condition of the underground sewer drain line and knowing the extent and location of a particular problem will be a key part of your decision in purchasing a home. This same independent and unbiased information also applies to current homeowners who suspect that they may have a problem and need to be prepared before hiring a contractor for repairs and/or dealing with the City of Moose Jaw.

Tree Root Intrusion

Tree Roots: small gaps in sections of piping can allow tree roots to enter the sewer line. Moose Jaw has cast-iron piping and roots will penetrate the pipes.  As the roots grow, the pipe can break and crack. Minor tree root intrusion can be rooted and cleared on a regular basis, with minimal or no significant pipe damage. Assessing the amount of root intrusion is part of a sewer scope inspection.

Debris Blockage

Debris Blockage: Occasionally construction debris or other items can become lodged in the sewer line, preventing the flow of waste through the pipe.

Low - Belly Areas

Low Areas: also known as a ‘belly’.  Ground heaves due to temperature fluctuations can cause the sewer line to bend forming low areas wich can collect water and solid waste.  The buildup of solid waste will cause poor flow through the pipe and can lead to a back-up and damage to the pipe.

Offset

Offsets: on some older piping, sections in the piping can separate, causing an offset in the piping to occur. Solid waste and debris may not clear this offset, and waste water will seep into the surrounding soil.  Waste water will cause further settlement and eventual breakdown of the piping.

Pipe Collapse

Pipe Collapse: if extreme root intrusion has occurred or significant soil settlement has occurred your sewer line pipe may collapse requiring full excavation and repair. The sewer scope inspection will determine if the sewer line pipe has collapsed.
